A letter to my brides.

Whether you’ve found me through social media, online searches, a referral  or though your event planner or a blog post,   I’m always astonished that brides connect with me to make their wedding cake. It’s a crazy feeling to know that others want you to create something for them for such a big event in their life.

I don't even think that brides realize how much they inspire my day to day life. It's so funny because by the time I finally meet brides at their consultation, they have no idea how much I've already fallen in love with what i want to create for them, based on even the smallest details they've given me. Pulling  inspiration from the florals they’ve selected, her dress, the colours, the decor and venue,  the theme, invitations, and most importantly their relationship.

Most couples, at the end of their consultation tell me that they were pleasantly surprised. A cake tasting is not like any other consultation for your wedding. It's fun and collaborative-- a creative and dreamy appointment where we discuss  and taste, imagine and design together. We usually laugh a lot too, most times it  feels like we can grab coffee together anytime, which we totally can.

I love sitting down with a couple and learning about each individual and their love story so each and every cake is personalized. Incorporating a hidden message or a tiny detail that is actually a secret window into a couple’s relationship, is what i like to think of as my signature stamp. I love the fact that your guests can see the design or that element of the cake when they look at it, but only the couple and I will know the meaning behind the aesthetic.

So brides, when you come to meet me--don't be shy. Take a pic of your tasting kit, its as pretty as it is delicious; ask the questions you've always wanted the answers to; be curious and just share stories with me while I'm drawing. Ideas about your wedding and stories about your lives. You’ll see that my sketchbook will evolve into something we both love.

I feed off of your excitement and energy when you envision your special day. That excitement turns into something one of a kind, and i want to hear all of your favourite parts of what you already have planned. This is your dream wedding, so let me into your head when you visualize your day.  My best advice for brides is to just be in love with what you’re planning-- every aspect of it. Artists feed off that energy-- or at least i do.

Late at night i watch other artists create to inspire myself. I envision them, lost in their element, trying to place myself in their heads while they put that paintbrush to paper, and watch the painting just ebb and flow. When i create the sketch of your wedding cake in my head, im also envisioning myself baking the cake perfectly, filling and stacking it as well as covering it. I see myself the night before your wedding making that sketch come to life and i see you and your future husband walking into your venue and lying eyes onto your cake. I have the clearest picture of you cutting your cake  that day, and the reaction and smiles of you and your guests when they take the first bite into something I've created.

So I've given away my secret. My passion comes from creating a little bit more happiness for you on your wedding day. That happiness on your wedding day is what i think of when i sit down to meet you for the first time. From what you’ve tasted at your consultation, to the design we came up with-- you’ll have my utmost care through the whole process when you become one of my brides. If you’re a bride that I've already had, or if you’re considering me to design your wedding cake, I’d like have to thank you for letting me do what i love. Thank you for letting me sit in front of you while you taste cake and let me just draw and dream. I can tell you that there’s no better feeling for an artist when they see it all come together, and the way their work affects others. So thank you, or thank you in advance for letting me create something beautiful for you on your wedding day. It's the least i could do.

Xo.
Natalie.
